Fluorinated Surfactants Potentially Non - Bioaccumulable

چکیده
This minireview updates non-exhaustive recent strategies of synthesis of original fluorosurfactants potentially non-biodegradable. Various strategies have been focused on: (i) the preparation of CF3-X-(CH2)n-SO3Na (with X=O, C6H4O or N(CF3) and n=8-12), (ii) the oligomerization of hexafluoropropylene oxide (HFPO) to further synthesize oligo(HFPO)-CF(CF3)CO-RH (where RH stands for an hydrophilic chain); (iii) the telomerization of vinylidene fluoride (VDF) with 1-iodopentafluoroethane or 1iodononafluorobutane to produce CnF2n+1-(VDF)2-CH2CO2R (n=2 or 4, R=H or NH4), (iv) the radical telomerization of 3,3,3-trifluoropropene (TFP) with isoperfluoropropyliodide or diethyl hydrogenophosphonate to prepare (CF3)2CF(TFP)xRH or CF3-CH2-CH2-(TFP)y-P(O)(OH)2, and (v) the radical cotelomerization of VDF and ha l-0 04 47 60 9, v er si on 1 15 J an 2 01 0 Author manuscript, published in "Journal of Fluorine Chemistry 130 (2009) 1192–1199" DOI : 10.1016/j.jfluchem.2009.08.002

Determination of fluorinated surfactants and their metabolites in sewage sludge samples by liquid chromatography with mass spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometry after pressurised liquid extraction and separation on fluorine-modified reversed-phase sorbents.
An analytical method was elaborated for simultaneous extraction and determination of fluorinated anionic and non-ionic surfactants in sewage sludge. Surfactant compounds were determined by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS) after Soxhlet extraction, hot steam extraction and pressurised liquid extraction (PLE) using spiked sludge samples. PLE in a multiple-step procedure consisting ...
متن کاملFluorinated and hemifluorinated surfactants as alternatives to detergents for membrane protein cell-free synthesis.
Hemifluorinated and fluorinated surfactants are lipophobic and, as such, non-detergent. Although they do not solubilize biological membranes, they can, after conventional solubilization, substitute for detergents to keep membrane proteins soluble, which generally improves their stability [Breyton, Chabaud, Chaudier, Pucci and Popot (2004) FEBS Lett. 564, 312-318]. In the present study, we show ...
متن کاملIn the cauldron of cell-free synthesis of membrane proteins: playing with new surfactants.
Cell-free protein synthesis is a well-known technique for the roles it has played in deciphering the genetic code and in the beginnings of signal sequence studies. Since then, many efforts have been made to optimise this technique and, recently, to adapt it to membrane protein production with yields compatible with structural investigations. The versatility of the method allows membrane protein...
متن کاملModeling the Micellization Behavior of Fluorosurfactants using Molecular-Thermodynamic Theory
Fluorinated surfactants are an important class of surfactants because they possess properties that are far superior than those of their hydrocarbon analogs. As a result, they find use in a wide variety of applications including in paints, polishes, fire-fighting foams, and emulsion polymerization. However, concerns regarding the non-biodegradability and toxicity of fluorinated surfactants have ...
متن کاملPhysicochemical properties of oleic acid-based partially fluorinated gemini surfactants.
We have developed oleic acid-based partially fluorinated gemini surfactants with carboxylic acid headgroups. The fluorocarbon chain is covalently bound to the terminal carbonyl group of oleic acid via a -CH(2)CH(2)OCO- unit, and the carboxylic acid headgroups are introduced to the cis double bond of oleic acid via -OCOCH(2)CH(2)- units. The aqueous solution properties of these surfactants were ...
